Africa has so much opportunity and adventure bubbling under the surface. There is no doubting she is the most remarkable continent on the planet, with so much diversity and natural beauty to uncover. Africa remains a popular continent for tourists, and it’s not difficult to understand why. Many people find themselves drawn to the magical allure of this remarkable place every year.

Africa as the ultimate travel destination for anyone looking to have an experience with a difference. There are so many things you can see, do, and experience here that are unlike anything you have ever processed before. Africa offers some of the best activities and adventures most people have ever encountered, but where to start?

These are 6 top recommendations for you when you finally head to Africa.

  1. Go on Safari

We couldn’t mention Africa without recommending a safari. This is a definite bucket list moment for a lot of people, and there are so many excellent reasons to undertake one. The beauty of the Masai Mara and the majesty of the Great Migration make Kenya the ultimate destination for an African safari. But the great thing with Africa is there are so many safari choices to enjoy here, and we would recommend choosing what most appeals to you.

2. Head to the Beach

Beaches are big business in Africa and tourists from Europe flock to them every year. You can get the same level of beauty, with much fewer people by heading a little further south. We’d recommend somewhere in Zanzibar, like Paje, which offers kite surfing and scuba diving, or Nungwi Beach where you can see the Mnarani Marine Turtle Conservation Pond shelters.

3. Take a Journey of Discovery

There is so much history and culture to discover on this continent, and this is worth a journey all of its own. You might like to start with camel rides across the Sahara Desert in Morocco, where you can stay at a Berber campsite and sleep beneath a velvet sky. Then we would recommend checking out the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. That’s before we even get to mentioning the Mandela House National Museum in South Africa, or the Atlas Mountains!

4. Shop the Markets and Bazaars

If you love to explore the markets and bazaars wherever you go, you’ll like Africa. Hurtling through the shanty towns and back streets of Kenya’s capital Nairobi, I decided to take a trip to a record store in Kenyatta Market that I had seen on television. These markets and bazaars are ones of the best parts about visiting Africa, as they let you rub shoulders with locals (sometimes literally) and support the local community.

5. Hike the Great Mountain

Another of the amazing adventures you can have in Africa is to hike up one of the world’s most impressive mountains — Kilimanjaro. There are a lot of things that you need to keep in mind when you choose to tackle the mountain, and we urge you to prepare thoroughly for this. With an elevation of just under 6,000 meters, this is not a mountain to take lightly. Many people climb Kilimanjaro every year, but all of them prepare thoroughly, and you should as well!

6. Wild Water Adventures

There are a whole host of aquatic adventures you can enjoy here. We’d recommend heading to Uganda or Ethiopia if you want some amazing rafting adventures. Senegal is excellent for those who like to enjoy the surf, while Madagascar offers jaw-dropping scuba adventures in the Red Sea. You might also like to think about visiting Victoria Falls on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe and swimming to the edge of this waterfall, the largest in the world. Breathtaking.

As you can see, these are just some of the stunning ideas for adventure activities you can have in Africa. This is a continent with so much to offer travelers of all levels of experience; it’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to time and time again.
